Every year, Tigard Rotary Club awards scholarships to several worthy high school seniors heading for higher learning.  The scholarship amounts have increased over the years, and this year we are pleased to award a total of $22,000 to 10 students bound for colleges in Oregon and beyond.  Five of these students attended a recent club meeting and spoke about their plans for the next stage of their lives.

Grace Martin has committed to the WSU Honors Program in Pullman, Washington.  She has also received a guaranteed, second-year transfer acceptance to USC in California.  She will major in Biology and Pre-Med and ultimately plans to become a physician.  Her desire to practice medicine stems from personal experience with doctors and the loss of a friend to cancer.

Evan Bishop will attend the OSU Honors College in Corvallis, Oregon and major in Biochemistry and Japanese.  He is interested in focusing on environmental or pharmaceutical biochemistry.  He also plans to study several other languages, including Korean and Chinese, to further his goal of becoming a translator.  Evan spent 10 months as a Rotary Youth Exchange student to Japan during his Junior year at Tigard High School.

Ines Mbousya is headed for OSU next fall to major in Bio-health Sciences and minor in French.  After OSU, she plans to attend OHSU medical school and major in Neurology with the goal of becoming a neurosurgeon.  Ines says she has always been fascinated by human anatomy and wants to understand how it works and how to fix things that go wrong.  She plans to work abroad.

Emily Sanchez will attend University of Portland to study Business Marketing and Global Business Management.  Her parents own a small business and she wants to follow in their footsteps.

Kim Siguaque-Blanco will be the first person in her family to attend college when she heads for Linfield College’s Portland campus to major in Nursing.  Kim is interested in focusing on women’s health issues and hopes to eventually work in gynecology and maternity.
