Huber’s, originally called the Bureau Saloon when it opened in 1879, is Portland’s oldest restaurant.  Famous for Spanish Coffee and roasted turkey dinners, the restaurant has been owned by James Louis since the 1970’s.

James’ uncle, Jim “Wai Fung” Louis immigrated from China in the early 1900’s and managed the restaurant for owner, Frank Huber.  He was eventually sold 50% ownership in the restaurant for $1.  In the 1940’s, James’ father, Andrew bought the remaining 50% ownership from John Huber, and it has been in the Louis family ever since.  The establishment is the largest user of Kahlua in the U.S.

In recognition of Jame Louis’ presentation, the book “The Missing Ingredient” by Jenny Linford will be placed in the Tigard Branch of the Washington County Library.
