The Tigard Street Heritage Trail project encompasses a one-mile swath of land along an old railroad bed.  At its head lies the building currently housing the Chamber of Commerce and Symposium Coffee.  When completed, the area will include public art, craftsmanship, symbolism, donor recognition, and event spaces.  The area will tell the story of Tigard’s history using story screens, existing buildings, and the natural setting near Fanno Creek.  The project would utilize the area underneath the 99W railroad bridge to create an outdoor room and gathering space complete with splashes of paint on the bridge’s concrete supports.  It might also include a lighted fitness trail, places to sit, and could be the future home of Tigard’s Farmers’ Market.  The project is expected to be completed in 2017.

RESOLVE architect Suenn Ho presented concept drawings for the project that can be viewed at www.resolvearchitecture.com/Tigard-st-heritage-trail.  Ms. Ho is a graduate of Columbia University NYC, a former University of Oregon professor of architecture, and has designed projects in Astoria, Chinatown, and OMSI.

The City of Tigard has already received a $700,000 grant from ODOT and the City Council has committed an additional $600,000 to the project.  Former club member, Richard asked if Tigard Rotary would be willing to partner with the City of Tigard in celebration of its 50th anniversary.  Rob stepped up to commit some funds to the project and volunteered to head up the club committee.  Please notify Rob if you’re interested in being involved.
