  • Balloon Festival details. Rob Musante went over the details of the Tigard Festival of Balloons event, which is a major fund-raising occasion for our club. Rob said we should net about $5000 from the work we do selling/collecting tickets at the event.
  • Installation Banquet follow-up. Bob Davidson had some follow-up details from the silent auction held at the Installation Banquet, including who actually bought the African banquet donated by Grace Kuto. (Ken VanDomelen paid for the entire dinner, and is sharing it with others who want to attend by essentially selling seats at the table. Contact Ken if you are interested). Bob said the auction raised about $3000 for the Club. Also, Jacob Pilling presented the Past-President’s pin to Cheron Calder.
  • Golf Tournament followup. Bill Monahan declared that Jim Sanders was the Rotary Club Golf Champion!
  • The Rotary Foundation (TRF) recognition. Ed Murphy presented TRF pins to Bonnie Conger (Paul Harris Fellow+8) and Jim Sanders (PHF+7). Then Jim Sanders turned around and presented a TRF pin to Ed (PHF+8). The pins represent a new level of giving that these members have reached.
  • No meeting on July 5th. Jacob Pilling reminded club members that there will not be a lunch meeting on July 5th.
  • Ten Grands in the Diamond. The 10 Grands is coming up on Aug 11th. We are still in need of auction items. We are looking for single items, or a combination of items, with a value of at least $150. Contact Tom Anderson or Jeff Tainer for more details.
  • Rotary Club of Tigard Foundation Board Member election. Jim Sanders announced that the election for Foundation Officers is coming up soon. The Club will be voting on 3 positions on the Board. If you are interested in tossing your hat into the ring and serving on the Foundation Board, please talk to Jim.
  • Carol VanDomelen’s magnificent adventure. Kan VanDomelen gave an update on Carol, who is in Kenya helping Grace Kuto, in association with the Harambee Centre. Ken says Carol is on a safari right now, staying at a resort, and eating fantastic food. This is a welcome change from the three weeks she spent training local nurses in Kenya and Uganda, and living in a gated compound. Carol found out just how difficult life can for the local people in a town like Chwele, Kenya.
  • Exchange Student says goodbye. Alberto Basilico is leaving to return to his home near Milan, Italy on Monday. Alberto thanked everyone for making his exchange possible, and said that he was a changed person – for the better. Ed Murphy presented a Certificate of Achievement and Appreciation to him.
  • Don’t know much about railroads. Bob Davidson was the Sergeant At Arms. He raised money by handing each table a quiz of 10 questions, all on railroad history. Most tables did rather poorly, but one table managed to get 5 correct answers! Toot-toot! Members at that table were exempt from the $2 fine imposed on everyone else.
