The guest speaker at our regular lunch meeting on October 27th was Sabrina McKenzie, who spent last year in Japan as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student. Sabrina stayed in Iyo, Japan, on Shikoku Island. She shared photos of her four host families, her friends and her activities during the year. She said was able to travel with her host families, and visited Tokoyo (where she went to Disneyland), Kyoto, Hiroshima, Hokkaido and other cities while there. In Hokkaido, she was able to meet up with one of our former Inbound Exchange Students, Honoka Suzuki. In some of her photos, Sabrina was dressed in traditional Japanese kimonos, with her face painted white. In other photos, she was with her friends, taking photos in a photo booth called “Purikura” – which can automatically enlarge the eyes and lighten the skin. (Apparently, Purikura is very popular in Japan). Towards the end of her exchange, she had the honor of addressing about 2000 Rotarians at a convention, representing all the exchange students in her district; and of course, she gave her presentation in Japanese. What an incredible experience. Thanks to the Rotary Club of Iyo, District 2670, and Sabrina’s four families, for making this exchange possible.
