Instead of a guest speaker at our meeting on October 20, the Club had an “Assembly”, or work session. President Bill Monahan said that Rotary International has been exploring ways to make Rotary more appealing to young people. One of those ways has to do with how often clubs meet, how many meetings a member needs to attend to remain in good standing, how long a member has to “make up” a missed meeting, and what actually counts as a “make-up”. Bill led a discussion of these topics.

By a show of hands, the Club members present favored relaxing the time period in which a member is allowed to make-up a missed meeting. Currently, the time frame is two weeks before, and two weeks after, a missed meeting. Members were in favor of revising that standard to four weeks before or after a missed meeting. Members were also in favor of retaining the current expectation that a member should attend at least 60% of regular club meetings each year, with at least 30% of those meetings being at the home club.

The Board will consider these and other comments and suggestions as it drafts amendments to the current bylaws. The revised bylaws will then be brought back to members for consideration and approval. If you have ideas for amendments to the bylaws, please contact Bill.
