Vocational Service calls on Rotarians to encourage and foster high ethical standards in business and professions, recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society.
The Vocational Service Committee helps the club emphasize the importance of work. Work provides people with a livelihood and gives them dignity, and society benefits from having all of its members employed in a manner that maximizes their talents and ambitions. Ways in which the club accomplishes this goal include:
Vocational Training Teams
Groups of professionals travel either to learn more about their vocation or to teach local professionals about a particular field. A VTT helps create sustainable change by strengthening the knowledge and skills of individuals and communities and thereby improving their capacity to serve.
THS Achievement Banquet
Each year since the club was organized we recognize students from Tigard High School that, as identified by teachers, have stood out in certain academic areas. Recognizing good educational achievements assists students in seeing the importance of education and hard work.
Each year the Rotary Club of Tigard Foundation awards college scholarships to Tigard High School seniors each May. The dollar amounts of the scholarships vary each year and applications can be found at the Tigard High School office.
