We still need volunteers to help with the annual Tigard Festival of Balloons set for June 24 – 26.  Please sign up at tigardrotary.org.  This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year!

Stuart reminded everyone to sign up for the Installation Banquet.  This year’s theme is The 60’s, so get out your tie dye, go-go boots, bell bottoms, and mod neckties.  Bob reminded us to sign up for the silent auction, too.  Donations are needed to make this fundraiser successful.

The club was asked to vote on whether or not to continue buying lunches for exchange students who have returned home, no matter how long ago they went on exchange.  Returning students attend our meetings only occasionally.  The club voted its unanimous support.

Birol recounted events of his year as club president from 2006 – 2007.  It was the first year of the international project in Guatemala.  We also partnered with another club to buy boats for Benin.  The dollars we raised were matched by the District and Rotary Foundation.  The boats are still in use today.  During the year we won several citations, including a Leader Award, Presidential Citation, and a Literary Award.  It was our first student exchange with Turkey.  Birol had a heart attack in April of 2007 but everyone stepped up and filled in while he recovered.

Raffle winners were Judy, Bob, Bonnie, and Meredith.

Sergeant Conrad’s fundraising efforts were kept at bay, but he lead us in a quiz on the definition and identification of cam shaft and related auto parts in preparation for the featured speaker.
