Ken VanDomelan announced that he and wife, Carol will be leaving for Guatemala on Jan. 14.  Among the projects we support are some 200 student scholarships, provided in partnership with a Guatemalan Rotary Club, and a new project at Lake Atitlan that will provide latrines, water filters, cook stoves, and education to residents.  Ken mentioned that some Rotary projects have failed in the past due to lack of follow-up.  He is working to ensure that this is not a problem in Guatemala.

Gail announced that former exchange student, Isabella, will visit next week.

Jack thanked the Musante family for underwriting the cost of holiday food boxes for 28 families in Tigard.  Thanks, also, to all the Rotarians who helped pack and deliver the boxes.

Charlotte, our recently-arrived exchange student from Austria enjoyed her holiday time with host family and friends. A highlight was eating crab, lobster, and shrimp.  She also went hiking and played games over the school break.  She was looking forward to attending the exchange student retreat at Anthony Lakes over the weekend.

Bob Davidson took a look back at club activities when he was president. During the year he lead the charge, the club’s budget was $79K and there was $84K in income.  The Rose Sale accrued a whopping $24,000 profit!  Club activities that year included providing dental checks, building a kitchen, and a landscaping project in addition to providing THS scholarships and food baskets.  The club had 69 members.

Our Sergeant has returned!  Conrad levied fines left and right and, as always, club members were generous and good-humored.  Ken was fined for being the second speaker of the day (standing on the soap box for too long) and gave in excess of the assigned penalty, as did Paul, Bob, and Jim Corliss.  Additionally, each table was assigned the task of presenting the Best Ever New Year’s Resolution.  Gina won the day and received respite from the fee for members at her table.  Sue and Dan came in second and third, respectively, but the accolades weren’t enough to spare them from payng the daily fine.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
