[vc_row full_width=”” parallax=”” parallax_image=””][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”336″ border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”” img_link_target=”_self” img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]The annual Tigard Rotary Club Installation Banquet event took place on June 18th at the Stockpot Restaurant. The theme was Mardi Gras. The decorations were festive, several people dressed up for the occasion, and the food was excellent. After an hour or so of social time, Jim Strickler, Master of Ceremonies, opened the event, and Stuart Cohen provided a “Thought of the Day” and led the Flag Salute and Four-Way Test. Here are some highlights of the event:
– Almost Past-President Steve Schmitt spoke briefly about his year as President, which he claimed has been an “absolute ball”, starting with the Rotary International Convention in Sydney, Australia. He enthused that “once you go [to an International Convetion], you’re infected”! He noted that, as President, you are in a position to witness the excellence of everyone in the Club, and “you just want to get out of their way”.
– Steve Schmitt presented bottles of wine to the 2014-15 Board members, with a very special label on the bottle that included photos of all the Board members. He also recognized Jim Sanders, Conrad Pearson, Bonnie Conger, Ed Murphy, Mike Stone, Jacob Pilling, Gina Cobb, and Rob Musante for their assistance to him during this last year.
– Birol and Sue Yesilada presented Paul Harris Fellows to honor their fathers, Ali Yesilada and Louis Lesea. Birol also noted that the Club contributed $1000 to The Rotary Foundation in recognition of Jan Hirsch, who passed away in October 2014.
– Jan Richardson presented the Rotarian of the Year award to Jacob Pilling.
– Bob and Ruth Davidson presented the Rotary couple of the year Ken and Carol VanDomelen.
– Steve Schmitt presented Certificates of Perfect Attendance to Bill Burton, Gina Cobb, Bonnie Conger, Bob Davidson, Whitney Green, Sanford Inouye, Mike McCleskey, Rob Musante, Jim Sanders, Mike Stone, Jim Stricker, and himself.
– Incoming President Rob Musante presented Outgoing President Steve Schmitt with a Past-President pin and a Past-President plaque.
– Rob Musante presented the new RI theme banner, and introduced the 2015-16 Board of Directors.
– Jeff Tainer and Stuart Cohen presented the Golf Awards. Troy Mears’ team won, but were not present to claim their prize. Steve Schmitt, Stuart Cohen, Sanford Inouye and Jeff Tainer were second. Troy’s teammate, Dan Offman, won the long drive for men. Adrienne Rogers won the long drive for women. Jan Sanders won the KP (closest to the pin) for women, and Gina’s teammate, Shane Shelton, won the men’s KP.
