“Leadership is influence; nothing more, nothing less.”  This is the mantra of mentor, trainer, and consultant Nathan Cook, who spoke today.  “The world needs more doers,” remarked Nathan.  Leadership is the power to tell people what to do, and then they do it.

Aligning our thoughts with our actions is integrity.  Many of us have ideas that aren’t followed by actions.  We need to change the way we look at leadership; not as a title one has, but as a way of influencing others.  In fact, each of us influences 4 people each day and over 10,000 people in a lifetime.

Consider where you are in the room.  Invest in and value yourself so you can value others.  Mr. Cook encouraged us to “pour value into others’ lives.”  Positional leadership relies on power and is the lowest form of leadership.  Unfortunately, it can be woefully inadequate in motivating others.  Peer leadership is the next step up. Think of 5 people you spend time with.   Are they helping or hindering you?  We should strive for the highest form of leadership: influencing the influencers.  “We’re all asking others to act,” Nathan noted.  What if we stepped up?  Our world would be different.  “It all starts from where we are.”

Nathan Cook is a student of some of the greatest teachers in personal development such as James Allen, Napoleon Hill, Paul Martinelli, Dr. John C. Maxwell, Paul Scheele and more.  Nathan brings a unique perspective to life because he developed consistency, persistence and passion in the lives of every person he interacts with.  For more information, visit nathancookcoaching.com.
