Foundation chairman Ken Vandomelen presented current information on the state of the foundation as well as explaining how the foundation is managed and integrated with club activities.  Ken pointed out that it is important to keep the foundation’s finances separate from the club’s operational income and expenses (such as those for meals, room rental, supplies, etc.).  The foundation belongs to every Tigard club member.

The foundation gets income via donations from club members and others, grants, and fund raising events.  Last fiscal year (2014-15), the foundation brought in over $45,000 and spent almost $37,000.  Activities included the THS Achievement Banquet, RYLA, holiday food baskets, backpacks and dictionaries for Tigard students, Operation Warm, Guatemala projects, Cypress Friendship Program, ShelterBox, and youth exchange students.

Over the last 45 years, the foundation has contributed some $325,000 in scholarships to Tigard High School Students, nearly $183,000 in gifts to the community of Tigard, and over $103,000 in gifts supporting world service programs.

Ken asked the various club committee chairs to list their respective activities for 2015-16.  They are:

RYLA will sponsor 2 youth to attend the Rotary youth leadership conference next summer

With help from the Good Neighbor Center, about 35 food boxes will be given away at holiday time; backpacks and shoes were given away at the annual back to school party

Dictionaries will be provided to around 500 Tigard 3rd graders (co-sponsored with Tigard Breakfast Club)

The Club will sponsor the annual THS Achievement Banquet

Operation Warm will give away about 400 coats (in conjunction with Tigard Breakfast Club)

International activities include ShelterBox, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala clean-up project, and youth exchange students (inbound and outbound).

Finally, the Foundation Board will vote this Thursday whether of not to go forward with Ten Grands on the Green in July 2016.  Several changes in the structure/sharing of income and expenses have been proposed.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
