Cub Scout Pack 669 didn’t begin in the usual way.  Cub Master, Soren Bjerregard explained that the pack at Alberta Rider Elementary exists thanks to a dedicated group of parents.  The pack was started in 2014 with five boys and is now 48 scouts strong including five dens in grades one through five.  Tigard Rotary stepped in as the chartering organization—a requirement for all Scout packs.

Scouting promotes strong values, positive attitudes, physical fitness, and a spirit of community service.  These values are reinforced through participation in activities such as camping, derbies, fundraising, and field trips.  In the past year, Pack 669 raised over $7,000, participated in 10 community service projects, collected 2,000 pounds of food for food banks, went on 14 camping trips, and attended many field trips.

Soren explained that four parent volunteers from Pack 669 are aging out of the group as their children move on to middle school.   He asked for suggestions from the Rotary Club on how the two groups could collaborate to keep Scouting relevant and promote the values of Scouting.  Some Rotarians suggested that older members of the Pack could help out at events such as the Tigard Balloon Festival and Ten Grands on the Green.

Cub Scout Pack 669 meets on the second Monday of each month at Alberta Rider Elementary School.
