At our regular lunch meeting on June 25, President Steve Schmitt reported that there will be a significant change in cost for the annual dues and the cost of lunches, effective immediately. At the Board meeting on June 18th, the Board of Directors decided to increase the club dues, and at the time, decrease the cost of the lunches. (This was something that was discussed at the Club Assembly meeting on June 11th). The primary reason for this change was to ensure that every member of the Tigard Rotary Club contributes to the cost of the meeting room, and also to the cost of providing complimentary lunches for the guest speakers, exchange students and other special guests. As it is now, those costs are borne by just the 26 or 27 members who actually pay for their lunch every week. Here’s how the new system will work:
The Club will add $4/meal to the members annual dues to pay for the room charges and guest meals. Figuring 47 meals per year, $188 ($4/meal x 47 meals) will be added to the dues of $324, for a total of  $512. That is, the dues for 2015-2016 will be $512. Meanwhile, the price for the lunches will be reduced by $4, from $17 to $13 (or from $17.50 to $13.50 if paid with a credit or debit card).
What does that mean? If a member attends 47 meetings and pays for his/her lunches with cash or checks, he/she would save $188/year on meal costs – which is the same amount by which the dues will increase. The net result for the year is the same.
Revised invoices will be sent out to all members soon. If a member has already paid the $324 dues, they will need to pay an additional $188. Dues may be paid annually (which is the preferred option); semi-annually ($256 due in July, and another $256 due in January); quarterly ($128/quarter, due in July, October, January and April); or even monthly ($42.67/month). The treasurer will keep track of this, with the help of the cashiers. The $13 meals start at the July 2nd meeting.
If you have any questions on this, please talk to Steve, President-Elect Rob Musante, or Treasurer Clancy Kilburn.
