Our Outbound Exchange Student, Sabrina said that her life is filled with waiting and more waiting as she anticipates her departure date of Aug 24.  She mentioned that her friend–our most recent incoming student, Hanoka–was celebrating her birthday on this date and asked that we all sing so that she could send the video to Hanoka.  We happily complied.

Cheron Calder got up to thank Marland and Rose Henderson for hosting students from the Cyprus Friendship Program.  She talked about the importance of the program and emphasized the fact that the student pairs–from Turkish-speaking north and Greek-speaking south Cyprus–were required to live together and share a bedroom during the 2 weeks spent in the US.  The program, designed to foster better relationships between northern and southern Cypriots, included a Ropes Course, Public Speaking Workshop, and an overnight experience in Kah-nee-ta, was supported by the International and Peace committees of Rotary clubs in the Portland area.  She planned to make a monetary donation to the program and invited everyone to join her.

Jacob Pilling gave an update on the upcoming Ten Grands on the Green concert, schedule for this Saturday, July 25.  At this point it looked like about 2,000 people would be in attendance.  Of these, 1,200 – 1,300 tickets had been purchased.  The balance were patrons, sponsors, and volunteers who received free admission in exchange for their work and support.  Tickets would be available online up to 1:00 on the day of the event.

Jacob mentioned that an email containing information for volunteers would be forthcoming.

President, Rob Musante read a thank you letter from Margaret wherein she expressed gratitude for our club’s $600 donation to the Tigard Library to purchase books.
